IAEP Members Deliver Life-Saving Care at Thistledown Racino

Horses race on a racetrack.

Members of IAEP Local R7-77 made the news for their valiant life-saving efforts and attentive medical care to a jockey who was seriously injured in a horse race last week.

The R7-77 members, who are part of the paramedic team at JACK Thistledown Racino outside of Cleveland, Ohio, were on scene at the racetrack during a race last Monday where jockey Mauro Cedillo was thrown forward from his horse and subsequently trampled by several horses behind him.

The paramedics delivered medical attention to Cedillo before he was taken to a local hospital. He is now in the intensive care unit at MetroHealth Medical Center, according to a GoFundMe post made by his fiancee.

Races at Thistledown were canceled that day and resumed as usual on Tuesday, thanks in part to the support of the paramedic team.

“Our top priority is the safety and well-being of our jockeys, horses, team members and guests,” said JACK Entertainment spokeswoman Aleksandra Breault in a statement.
